Thanks for telling me about this Amy!
I went to High School with THIS GUY! It was fun for me to see an old face from "back in the day!" I hung out with him some...he was a "friend of a friend"...a genuine nice guy...obviously not quite "Idol"material...but now he's had his 2 seconds of fame not only on national television...but my blog! :)

A Question for all you moms...or otherwise knowledgeable people!
Weston has been slow getting teeth. He is 16 months old and has four teeth on top and three on the bottom. Today I noticed that he's getting a top molar. Have any of you had your kids teeth come in like this? I thought he'd get more front teeth before his molars came in. Do you think it's something I need to worry about?

Kaitlyn-ism
We were eating dinner tonight and Kaitlyn asked, "Mom, can I have some more abandoned oranges?" Brandon and I chuckled and said, "Do you mean mandarin oranges?"
I love that she still mispronounces words sometimes! It's so cute. My all time favorite so far happened a week after my niece left to the MTC. (Kaitlyn was 3 yrs. old) We were driving on the bridge over Cottonwood wash (I think) and she said, "Mom, is that the empty sea where Jewel is?" Too funny!

"The Cost Of Winning...Coming in First Across the Wrong Finish Line"
I bought Brandon THIS BOOK for Christmas because it is written by one of our favorite authors, Dean Hughes. He wrote the Children of the Promise and Hearts of the Children series...and I think he's a member of the Quorum of the Seventy now??? (*added later* actually, I think it is Gerald Lund, author of The Work and The Glory who's a member of the Seventy, not Dean Hughes.)...anyhow...I bought this book solely because we love Dean Hughes. I think it is his first non-fiction book...and we LOVE it. It's hard to explain what it is about...but I have been wanting to post about it for a while and I thought that I'd share a few parts with you so that you can get a feel for it and see why I am HIGHLY recommending it!
On page 130 he quotes Elder Jeffrey R. Holland.
"I think one of the reasons [we become envious] is that every day we see allurements of one kind or another that tell us what we have is not enough. Someone or something is forever telling us we need to be more handsome, or more wealthy, more applauded or more admired than we see ourselves as being. We are told we haven't collected enough possessions or gone to enough fun places. W are bombarded with the message that on the world's scale of things we have been weighed in the balance and found wanting."
Have we not ALL felt this way???
...he goes on to say: "Brothers and sisters, I testify that no one of us is less treasured or cherished of God than another. I testify that he loves each of us -insecurities, anxieties, self-image, and all. He doesn't measure our talents or looks; He doesn't measure our profession or our possessions. He cheers on every runner, calling out that the race is against sin, not against each other."
I know I have felt jealous of someones talents or abilities and then cheered inwardly when I have seen them fail. (don't tell me I am the only one)I don't want to be that way... I try to not be that way...but it seems to come naturally...part of that "natural man"...And who of us hasn't seen someone...maybe even a good friend do something GREAT...even if it was just baking a great loaf of bread and we look at our hard crusty loaves...or if you're like me...you look at your store bought bread and think, "I totally stink as a mom. If I were a good mom...I would bake bread like that." And we just KNOW that our friend thinks she's better than us because she bakes her kids whole wheat (that she grew and ground herself) bread.
I think I am getting ahead of myself...here's the last part of that quote, "The world tells us what matters, and all too often we listen, and in doing so we fail to hear the Lord, through the Spirit, offering us a better perspective. We need to tell ourselves over and over, say it in our prayers, teach it in our lessons, discuss it in our family home evenings -the Lord loves us, doesn't favor any one of His children over another, and isn't conducting a contest. We're the ones who invented competition with one another, and if we're thinking right, we'll get out of the game."
I don't know if that really gives you an idea of what this book is about...but for me...what I am trying to do (and of course in a couple weeks I'll forget and have to remind myself) but I don't want to have any bad feelings towards anyone and I want to do whatever it takes to make that happen...tell myself good things about me and about others and make it a habit to look for the good in myself and everyone else with out comparing or feeling like I am either better or worse off than they are. This is a HUGE challenge for me. I am not a patient person, I am judgmental at times and sadly, I love a good gossip session!
Here's another quote that kind of helps to sum things up a little. "Thinking of life as a contest makes each day feel like a grind, a fight, a series of disappointments. Thinking of life as an opportunity to serve is a release from all that."
Okay...so I know that none of what I have just says does THIS BOOK justice...so you're just going to have to read it for yourselves! It's an easy read...I promise!

Such a good daddy...
I just have to brag for one second about what an amazing dad Brandon is.
Adelin got a baby doll for Christmas that she LOVES, takes care of, sleeps with every night...she tells Brandon and I that we are it's Grandma and Grandpa, and she has her baby's Aunt Kaitlyn babysit for her. She loves the doll...you get the point.
SO, we let her take the doll to church with her yesterday. I could have sworn that I put it in my diaper bag before she went to Primary...but last night when it was time for bed, we couldn't find her dolly ANYWHERE! Brandon got her to lay down in bed without it and from the other room I heard her tell him, "I think I am going to be sad." before she broke down in tears. Brandon came out and looked for it some more and then he got his keys to the church (it was very close to mid-night) and drove out to the church to look for it. He came home triumphant. He took the doll into her and she told him, "Her diaper is gone." She might not realize what a sweet thing he did for her...but I sure thought it was heroic!

Our Week
Goodness...we're halfway through the first month of the year! Can you believe it. I think I am finally starting to feel like life is getting back to a normal routine after Christmas!
SO! Our week was not too exciting...in fact...I am hard pressed to remember anything worth writing about! (give me a second here while I consult my calendar...) Oh yeah! Monday was Brandon's moms birthday! We went over and had a little party with the rest of the family who live up here. It was nice to visit and sing to Mary Louise!... I am sure I did other things that day...made breakfast, did dishes, picked Kaitlyn up from school, made lunch, cleaned up from that, put Weston down for a nap, tried to keep the girls entertained without the aide of the television, helped the girls clean there room, made snacks, cleaned up messes the kids made, went to the bank, signed Kaitlyn up for dance class, went to the store, realized I had left my debit card in the ATM at the bank...rushed to the bank before it closed to get my card, got home, made dinner (I think Brandon actually made dinner on Monday...) did the dishes... cleaned the kitchen (again)... got the kids to bed........that's pretty much how everyday goes...with a few different variations....so exciting...I know! Honestly I got to the point this week where I was sounding a lot like my kids..."I am SO bored!" You'd think after three years I would have adjusted to small town life! I honestly don't get out of my house much...because there's really no place to go. Winter is the worst for me because it's cold and we can't even go to the park or for a walk...I get a little "stir-crazy" being cooped up in the house ALL day long. Adelin and Weston don't know any different...but Kaitlyn will sometimes say to me (and she did this week)..."Mom, I miss living in Mesa." When I ask her why, she mentions all the fun things we used to do... swimming, going to the zoo, going to the mall, spending the night at Grandma's...it's hard to not tell her, "I wish we could move back too..." besides, I don't know if I really want to or not....and even if we did move back to Mesa then I'd hear, "Mom, I miss living in Snowflake" and when I asked her why I am sure her answer would be, "I miss my friends, I miss playing with my cousins, I miss riding horses..."
I have noticed a "trend"...I have about a week out of every month where I sure that I am going to go nuts if I have to stay in this town any longer and I am so sad about not having family (my family) around...and I realized this week (finally) that I am homesick. What's the cure for that?
On to the other wonderful highlights of the week!
Weston learned how to say, "Jesus"...it's dang cute too! He's growing up and gaining opinions that he has no way to express...so he points and whines and gestures (kind of like charades) until we figure out what he wants. It will be so nice when we can just say, "juice" or "hungry"! He has another black eye...who knows where it came from! If he didn't run into something I am sure his older sister aided him in his injury!
Adelin is still wearing skirts and sandals. She likes to pretend like it is summer...which is fine when we are in the house...but if we are going somewhere, we have to just about pin her down and put pants on her. She loves skirts! She's kinda funny that way. She wakes up and before she even come out of her room she takes her Pull-up off, puts panties on, and gets dressed in a skirt and shirt. If she was unable to find a clean skirt...she will sometimes rummage through the dirty clothes (unbeknown to me) and come out dressed and ready for a bowl of cereal...even if I make pancakes or eggs...she will eat a bowl of cereal first! ALSO! This week, Adelin finally mastered riding her tricycle. We've had a couple warm days and she got out there and with a little help from her big sister...she's mastered it!
Kaitlyn has been riding her bike a TON too. She'll even go out there in the cold. She zooms around the drive way and up into the yard. I have doctored a few wounds caused by her new found love for biking. ( to be honest...I love performing first aide...so even though I hate to see her hurt, this is fun for me...sick, I know...) She's been reading more and more and helping out even more with housework. Today she helped sweep the floor...I went to finish the job and found all the crumbs she'd swept shoved into a corner of the kitchen and hidden by a rug. Nice.
Brandon relieved his poor house bound wife yesterday and I went to Wal-Mart...alone! Our cupboards would have put Old Mother Hubbard to shame! It was a good thing I didn't take any kids because that cart of FULL! I don't know how much longer I will be able to do "major grocery shopping" with only one cart! (yikes) Brandon is also playing on the ward basketball team. His games are all too late, so the kids and I don't go...but he has fun and I always hear from people about how good they think he is. He's such a great husband...he puts up with me...and that in itself (not mentioning all the other things he does) is a major feat! ALSO...he enjoyed watching the Cardinals beat the...well...whatever team they played in their play-off game today! (judge us if you must for watching TV on the Sabbath...but you know what the Lord says about those who judge others...)
I signed up to play Volleyball with our ward. I chicken out and didn't go to our first game. I have a very hard time playing sports in this town...well...with competitive people in general. I don't like it when I am playing with a group of adults and I feel like I am getting picked on for not playing as well as they do... they play a "friendly game" like they are trying out for the Olympics! (oops...what did I just say about judgin others??? Hey! I am working on it too!) BUT...I have talked to a few other people in my ward who feel the same way as I do and we've decided that we're going to brave it. So...I might go to my game this week...maybe.
Today was a good day! I got to go to Sunday School and Relief Society! I am nursery leader and have been in there since Weston was 4 months old...we now have 4 people called to nursery (including myself) and so we rotate one person out every week...but we still have that other person in case we need them. It's work out pretty well so far! After church, we had Jon (Brandon's cousin), Dawniel (his wife who I LOVE) and their 3 cute kiddos over for dinner. I made a new recipe. It's French Dip Subs. They turned out pretty good. All you do is put a roast in the Crock Pot along with 1/2 C. soy sauce, 1 tsp. rosemary (which I think I'll skip next time), 1 tsp. thyme, 1 tsp, garlic powder, and one bay leaf for 10-12 hours. (I forgot to mention that you need to cut as much fat off the roast as you can so that your drippings aren't to greasy.)...anyhow...you shred the roast and serve it on a roll...and you use the drippings as your dipping sauce. Very easy...which is key for anything recipe I use!
I guess that's all for now! I have to say that I am SO excited that there isn't school tomorrow! Thank You Martin Luther King Jr. and all you and others sacrificed so much for Civil Rights...and thank you to whoever decided to give kids the day off school so that I can sleep in!

Good DEALS!
Okay...so I may never get around to blogging about Christmas and New Years....but I had to share with you the great deals to got this past week! Sorry...there are no pictures to go along with it.
SO! I had mentioned to a few of you about how Kaitlyn totally grew like 2 inches over Christmas break...all her pants are "high waters"....and after the holidays...I am not in a spending mood...not to mention the fact that I just bought the girl new jeans not to long ago. So I decided to go thrift store shopping...which I love to do and they have a new thrift store here in Taylor that is clean...unlike the other the one I have gone to a few times here in Snowflake...I leave there feeling like I need to be de-loused....anyhow....so at the new thrift store I found 2 pairs of jeans in perfect condition...I paid $5 for both. Then I went to the little thrift shop they have at the Senior Center and found another pair for 50 cents! 3 pair of good fitting jeans would be a miraculous blessing if they were for me...and I was grateful to find them for Kaitlyn...but I knew she'd need a few more pair to make it through the winter so I called and enlisted my sister in Mesa who was a SUPER SHOPPER! She found three pair at a yard sell...her total spending??? 75 cents!...so that would have been enough jeans but I had gotten the deal finding bug and had already bid on a few pair (okay...4 pair) on eBay...and won them all....not the BEST deals...but I still got all 4 pair for $21.....let's do a little math here.....that makes 10 pairs of jeans (now we have a surplus)...and the cost was....$27.25...I saved over $75 by buying second hand!
My other great deal was found at the before mentioned new thrift shop. I got a baby bassinet for my sister for $14! What I love is that this thrift store (Kidz Kloset) will give you store credit for your gently used kid items...so I got a $6 credit for the things I look in...but even at $20...the bassinet would have been a steal...it's in great condition and I was tempted for a second to tell Tiff that I bought it for myself and would loan it to her...but that was just the "green eyed monster" side of me coming out!
ANYHOW! I just had to share that...I love thrift store shopping! It's in my blood! My Grandma Barrett used to take me "junking" (aka thrift store shopping and yard selling) with her when I was a kid and I loved it...still do!

I am having "bloggers-block"....I just really haven't felt like blogging about anything even though I do want to catch things up for the past few weeks....it's the uploading of pictures and the fact that I have things around the house that need to get done that are holding me back, I think. Hopefully I can everything caught up by the end of this week!
....one thing I want to write about because I thought it was cute.
....On the way home from school today Kaitlyn told me to "please drive faster because i need to use the bathroom really bad!"....I asked her if she used the bathroom at school today and she said, "No, the bathrooms are really yucky...I have to be very brave to go use them and I wasn't feeling so brave today." Then when we got home and she went potty she said,
"You don't feel that everyday."
I said, "What?"
"Like you need to go to the bathroom REALLY bad."
I don't know why I thought all that was cute and worth writing about but I did. The fact that she thinks the bathrooms at school are too gross to use is concerning...but honestly...I'd be more surprised if the bathrooms were actually clean.
